A skid unit water tank of 600lt shall be designed and manufactured to fit onto the rear load body of a standard ‘bakkie’. The water tank shall be L shaped, roto-moulded polyethylene. The water tank shall be fitted with a 450mm manhole & tank lid that shall be vented.
The water tank shall be fitted with a 65mm BIC inlet for refilling purposes.
PUMP & ENGINE
The skid unit shall be fitted with a Davey Twin wide pump that shall be directly coupled to a Honda GX390 recoil start engine. The pump shall have a maximum flow rate of 550lpm and a 10bar shut off pressure.

The pump casing shall be manufactured from high impact, non-rust die cast lightweight marine grade aluminium with an ‘O’ ring sealing system. The impellor shall be an efficient closed vane non-rust aluminium alloy impellor mounted directly to the engine crankshaft. A mechanical “Crane” type seal shall be fitted – with carbon/ceramic seal faces. The pump shall be directly coupled to 13 hp petrol, 4 stroke recoil engine. A brass “Y” strainer, shall be fitted on the suction side between the pump and water tank. The exhaust outlet shall have a gas guide fitted pointing away from the operator’s position.
There shall be one (1) 90m capacity hose reel fitted to the vehicle – facing rearwards. The hose reel shall be fitted with a 2 x 30m x 20mm high pressure cotton braided rubber hose terminating in a flow selectable pistol grip nozzle. The hose reel shall be fully manufactured from aluminium with a stainless-steel swivel joint with brass insert for longevity under operational conditions. The hose reels shall be a locally manufactured unit with full servicing parts available in Cape Town.
The hose reel shall be fully galvanised. The hose reel shall be painted red. The hose reel shall be completely manufactured from aluminium. The hose reel shall be fitted on top of the rear locker. The 1” rotary joint shall be manufactured from stainless steel with the internal waterway being brass. The hose reel shall have a removable rewind handle. The hose reel shall have a locking mechanism – bolt-lock – 60m x 20mm high pressure cotton braided rubber hose shall be fitted to the hose reel. One (1) x AWG nozzle shall be fitted with a geca coupler and connected to the hose on the hose reel.
A 650 lt. water tank shall be supplied. The tank shall have a “stepped” design with a flat underside. The tank shall be manufactured from single mould (seamless) roto-moulded polyethylene. The tank shall be UV stabilized and have a nominal wall thickness of 8mm. The tank shall be of dimension that will allow fitment between the vehicle load body wheel arches. The tank shall be fitted with a 450mm manhole with a screw in lid. The tank shall be vented to ensure that the tank does not collapse when being emptied. A fast draining point of 25mm size shall be fitted to the tank. The tank shall be fitted with a 65mm Male BIC fitted with a non-return valve for refilling from a hydrant or another vehicle.
The skid unit tank & pumps shall be fitted into a fully galvanised steel frame that shall be securely bolted to the vehicle load body.The hose reel shall be fitted to a separated fully galvanised steel frame at the rear end of the vehicle.
All outlets shall be fitted in a logical manner with 40mm, 25mm or 20mm ball valves to isolate each outlet individually.
The pump shall be plumbed in the following manner:
One (1) 50mm T-piece. One (1) 50mm outlet fitted with a 50mm ball valve and 65mm BIC female – volume outlet. One (1) 50mm return to tank fitted with a 50mm ball valve and coupled to the water tank with 50mm kannaflex. One (1) 25mm outlet fitted with a 25mm Geca coupler and ball valve. One (1) 25mm outlet fitted with a 25mm ball valve and 25mm leader hose to the hose reel. One (1) 50mm tank to pump suction from water tank outlet directly to the pump inlet. All plumbing shall be galvanised pipe and 50mm kannaflex for suction and tank returns.
